On the Ground with Samaritan's Purse: Hope in Kenya, Nigeria, and Cambodia

Bringing the Gospel to the Frontlines of Crisis

For more than 50 years, Samaritan's Purse has rushed to the world's most desperate places—providing food, water, shelter, and medical care to those affected by catastrophic events. But their mission goes far beyond meeting physical needs. Through every act of service, they share the hope of Jesus Christ, bringing light to the darkest corners of the world.

On the Ground with Samaritan's Purse is a half-hour weekend program that takes listeners to the frontlines of this global relief effort. Hosted by Kristy Graham, the show offers behind-the-scenes stories from staff, volunteers, and those served—challenging listeners to pray, reflect, and consider how they, too, can be the hands and feet of Jesus in their own communities.

Stories of Redemption from Around the World

Recently, Kristy traveled to Kenya, Nigeria, and Cambodia to capture real-time ministry work happening in these countries. Through powerful firsthand accounts, these recent and upcoming episodes reveal stories of redemption and hope, showing how God creates beauty from ashes and transforms lives through Samaritan's Purse's work.

Kenya: A Fresh Start Through Christ

In Kenya, Kristy sat down with Becky Chinchen, the founder and executive director of Amani ya Juu. Becky shares her powerful testimony of fleeing Liberia during civil war and how God transformed that painful experience into purpose. Amani ya Juu gives women a fresh start—women who have fled poverty, war, loneliness, abuse, and rejection. Through skills training like stitching that provides income, combined with devotions, worship, and discipleship, these women are consistently pointed to Christ and transformed by His love. Take a tour through Amani ya Juu headquarters and meet women whose lives were forever changed through this holistic, gospel-centered program.

Nigeria: Healing Bodies, Opening Hearts

When orthopedic surgery isn't accessible, broken bones and injuries can leave patients with painful deformities and long-term health challenges. In Nigeria, some patients treated by a Samaritan's Purse orthopedic specialty team had fractures that had been healing incorrectly for decades—simply because they couldn't afford surgery. Many were amazed that strangers would fly across the world to offer life-changing procedures free of charge. Madison Strausbaugh, program manager for this team, shares how curiosity about this extraordinary compassion opens doors to share the Gospel with patients who have endured years of suffering.

Cambodia: Translating Hope Across Languages and Hearts

Samaritan's Purse teams travel around the world reaching every tribe and tongue, but this work would be nearly impossible without translators who bridge cultural and linguistic barriers. Elise, a translator and Cambodia native, recently worked with the Operation Christmas Child team, joining the trip unsure of what to expect but open to however God may use her. Through her voice, God conveyed the spiritual awakening happening across Cambodia. "I think it really opened my eyes to see Cambodia and recognize that there are needs and there are people that are ready and the harvest is there, but are we ready?" – Elise. Kristy also hears from a member of the National Leadership Team in Cambodia who was delivered by Christ from a broken past and now carries a burden for discipling the next generation: "Maybe I cannot change the whole Cambodia, but I said to the Lord, 'Can I be the one that plants your seed in people's lives, so then they can carry your seed to other people.'" Please pray for Gospel opportunities for Elise and for Operation Christmas Child teams who work year-round to carry the Good News of Jesus Christ to the ends of the Earth.
