The Life and Legacy of Dr. James Dobson Open House
At this year's NRB Convention in Nashville, the Dr. James Dobson Family Institute (JDFI) hosted a special open house to honor a man whose voice has shaped families, culture, and Christian media for decades, Dr. James Dobson. The gathering was an invitation to pause, reflect, and celebrate the extraordinary life and legacy of Dr. Dobson, while looking ahead to the future of the ministry he built.
The morning was filled with heartfelt moments, beginning with remarks from Dr. Bart Brock, the new chairman and president of JDFI. Dr. Brock shared his vision for leading the ministry forward, reaffirming JDFI's commitment to remaining on the forefront of faith and culture. Roger Marsh, Vice President of Content and Executive Producer, also addressed the gathering, offering insight into the ministry's ongoing work.
One of the most moving moments of the morning came from Danae Dobson, Dr. Dobson's daughter, who shared personal reflections on her father's life and the impact he's had — not just on millions of families, but on their own.
The event also marked a significant milestone: the presentation of the very first James C. Dobson "Courage in Media" Award. Danae presented the honor to Pastor Jack Hibbs, senior and founding pastor of Calvary Chapel Chino Hills, founder and president of Real Life ministry, and a nationally syndicated TV and radio host. The award recognizes a leader who embodies the same boldness and conviction that defined Dr. Dobson's decades of ministry, a fitting tribute to carry his legacy forward.
True to the spirit of celebrating the man behind the ministry, the event featured refreshments that reflected Dr. Dobson's personal favorites — apple-themed treats as a nod to his well-known love of apple pie, alongside cans of Coca-Cola, a longtime staple in the Dobson family.
As JDFI enters this next chapter under Dr. Brock's leadership, the heart of the ministry remains the same: equipping families and standing for truth in a culture that needs it now more than ever.
